Registering a new account does not seem to work

Description

I'm using Beem 0.1.8 from F-Droid (http://f-droid.org/).

When running Beem, selecting "I want to register for a new account" and clicking "Continue", I encountered the following issues.

First, the hostname part has a default value of "beem-project.com", which gives the impression that it is not necessary to fill it in, but the "Continue" button will remain greyed until this has been filled with something. This makes the UI pretty confusing: either the host should be pre-filled with a real value, or it should be more apparent that it has to be filled with something, or attempting to click "Continue" should make it clear that the field should be filled.

Second, I didn't manage to make account creation work when trying a few servers: I tried with beem-project.com, 0nl1ne.at, blah.im, climm.org, and in all cases I got the message "The selected server is not available. Please try another one". Can anyone reproduce this? (Alternatively, it could be the case that, e.g., my data provider is blocking necessary ports, but then the error message should give me more helpful information to troubleshoot this.)
